About the Position

District 7 Fire Rescue is seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as Probationary Firefighter EMTs/Paramedics. Members of District 7 serve the residents and visitors of northwest Bexar County with professionalism, compassion, and integrity. Our firefighters are trained to respond to a wide variety of emergencies, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, and hazardous materials incidents.

Firefighting is inherently dangerous work that demands both physical strength and mental resilience. Applicants should be prepared to work in inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and other hazardous conditions that may be immediately dangerous to life and health.

For Paramedic-only applicants, initial assignments will focus on EMS operations, including patient care and transport, fire scene medical support, and other duties as assigned.

Personnel report to their assigned Battalion Chief, Company Officer, or Medical Officer, depending on current assignment. All prehospital medical care is delivered under the supervision and delegated authority of the department’s EMS Medical Director.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Ranges:

  • Probationary Firefighter EMT: $44,161.44 – $68,412.56

  • Firefighter Paramedic: $54,356.54 – $83,057.12

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Valid Texas Class B Exempt Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 30 days)

  • Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Firefighter Basic Certification or higher

  • Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) EMT-Basic Certification or higher

    • Applicants with Paramedic certification may apply even if they do not yet hold TCFP Firefighter Certification

  • Paramedic applicants must hold current ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and CPR certifications

  • NIMS Certifications: ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-700, IS-800

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (oral, written, electronic)

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, peers, and the public

District 7 Fire Rescue is a progressive, all-hazards emergency services organization serving northwest Bexar County, Texas. The department proudly holds an ISO Class 1 rating, a distinction earned by less than one percent of fire departments nationwide, recognizing our commitment to excellence in fire protection, emergency response, and community risk reduction.

District 7 currently operates two fully staffed stations, with plans underway to break ground on a third station to better serve our rapidly growing community. Our department is home to several specialty teams, including Wildland Firefighting, Technical Rescue, a Medical Special Operations Team, and a UAS (Drone) Program supporting emergency response and situational awareness.

Our members train at our dedicated District 7 Training Facility, which features live-burn props and hands-on simulation environments designed to develop and maintain operational excellence across all disciplines.
